Okay, I admit it, I only was interested in this game because Daft Punk were in it. And that comment that "playing a DP setlist is the closest thing to being at their concert" is a fact I can attest to. FLASHING LIGHTS IN FACE KGO.
I'm still largely unhappy with the song selection, and good thing you can enter a retail code to unlock DP from the get-go. Two of the DP mixes are complete shit, more than a handful of mixes in other sets are questionable at best, and the rest is utter garbage. Maybe I just don't have an ear for hip-hop, I don't know. I can think of only maybe 4 songs (excluding the DP mixes) in the whole game that are tolerable. I can only hope they will push out some decent dlc in the coming weeks, but considering its current dlc offers, I don't really have my hopes up.
The controller is very well made, how I imagine the beatmania controller should have been. The actions of playing the game itself take a bit of getting used to, especially scratching with the blue button. It took me a few songs to realise that bracing the turntable with my thumb would make things a lot easier.
As for the game itself, the graphics are crisp, and the format is familiar to the Guitar Hero family. For people expecting to add DJ Hero as another "hero party game" though, don't. The learning curve is rather steep compared to Guitar Hero, and it takes a few songs to get used to the actual gameplay. A few songs of which I'm sure you don't really want other people looking on.
While I still maintain that the style of rhythm/DJ games from Japan are far superior, this is actually a decent substitute, bar its terrible songlist. Now if only they would put some decent techno/electronic on the dlc I might actually get a bit more excited...
